Did you know? What are the legally entitled leave days.
30 Apr 24

National Labor Day first originated in the United States, with its inaugural event taking place on September 5, 1882, in New York City. This day was dedicated to celebrating and honoring the labor force and their efforts nationwide, which later spread to other countries around the world. In Thailand, National Labor Day was first observed in 1975, proclaimed by the Thai government at the time to honor the country's workforce. Since then, it has been held annually on May 1st. Today, let's explore the leave rights under Thai labor law.

Sick Leave
Employees are entitled to take sick leave for the actual duration of their illness and receive pay during the leave. If the leave extends beyond three workdays, a medical certificate must be presented to the employer.

Personal Leave
Employees have the right to take no less than three days of personal leave per year for various personal matters such as taking family members to medical appointments, handling official documents, attending court as a witness, participating in funerals, attending graduation ceremonies (either their own or those of close acquaintances), or for examinations. Employees receive their regular salary during this leave.

Military Service Leave
Leave for military service as specified by military institutions for call-ups, training, or readiness assessments is compensated throughout the duration but cannot exceed 60 days per year.

Maternity Leave
Maternity leave is granted for no more than 98 days, including holidays falling within the leave period, with pay for up to 45 days. This leave can be taken for prenatal check-ups, childbirth, and postnatal recovery.

Sterilization Leave
Leave for sterilization is granted as per the duration specified and certified by a physician. Employees are also paid for the days they are on sterilization leave.

Note: The number of leave days may vary according to company policies but must not be less than the legal minimum.
